COUPLE GEARED UP FOR NEW HOME

TRAVELLING to work gave a Devonport couple the drive to buy a new home at the town’s award winning Vision development.  Solicitor Kevin Digby and personal trainer Jenni Hebden were looking for an investment as well as a larger home when the transformation of the former MoD South Yard enclave caught their eye.

As the demolition of the three-metre high security wall unveiled the regeneration of the land and breathed new life into an area devastated by World War II bombings and then requisitioned by the MoD, the couple could start to see the beginnings of a new community and an opportunity to invest early in the project.

Vision will eventually feature more than 450 new homes, shops, offices and community facilities, with developer Redrow working with English Partnerships, Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership, Plymouth City Council and other stakeholders to bring about the changes.

Kevin, 26, said:  “We drove past Vision on our way to work and we could really see it taking shape.    When the wall came down it really was the beginning of something big for the town and we were keen to get in at the start of the regeneration.

“We wanted a new home but we also wanted it to be an investment and buying off plan at this year’s prices provided a good opportunity for us.”

Kevin and Jenni, 21, have bought a three-bedroom townhouse on the 18-acre development and their new home will be ready in summer of 2008.

Andrea Nippe, area sales manager for Redrow, said: “Many homebuyers like Kevin and Jenni have the imagination and the foresight to see how this development will look when it is complete and want to take advantage of the launch prices.”

The Vision scheme has already enjoyed triple success in national award schemes. It forms a major part of the overall regeneration of Devonport, which won the Sustainable Communities Award at the national RTPI Planning awards and has just been shortlisted in the Regeneration & Renewal Awards 2007; while the Vision scheme itself was highly commended at the Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards.

A stylish collection of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes are being built in the first phase, with current prices from £180,995 for a three-bedroom home and from £217,995 for a four-bedroom property.
