"Older houses tend to need more work. As you get older the work gets harder, so a new house is perfect for us as the maintenance is so low and heating and cooling require much lower energy costs." John Walters , Launceston
HAVING lived in almost 30 different places all over the world, retired couple John Walters and his wife Barbara have finally decided to settle in the picturesque market town of Launceston, Cornwall.
John and Barbara Walters have been travelling the world, because of John’s job, for 30 years and have lived just about everywhere including France, Iran and Greece. However, as they reached their late sixties and retirement, John and Barbara returned to the UK
The Walters, originally from Plymouth, were determined to settle in Cornwall, and chose Redrow’s Stourscombe Vale development in Launceston, mainly due to its perfect location.
John says: “Launceston is a great market town with all the amenities we need. At Stourscombe Vale, we are within easy walking distance to the town which is important for us.
“We have lived and taken holidays before in Cornwall and it is really beautiful. We have always found the people here really friendly, so when we retired there was no question that we would finally settle in Cornwall.”
Being in their 70s, John and Barbara chose to buy a maintenance free, high energy efficiency, newly built property, at Redrow’s first Cornish development, Stourscombe Vale.
“Older houses tend to need more work. As you get older the work gets harder, so a new house is perfect for us as the maintenance is so low and heating and cooling require much lower energy costs.
“At Stourscombe Vale, the garden had already been landscaped by Redrow when we moved in and will be easy to look after, so we are able to have a better quality of life and spend our time doing the things we enjoy,” adds John.
John and Barbara, who moved into a four-bedroom Ribble semi, have been massively impressed by Redrow throughout the whole house moving process.
“Redrow has been absolutely fantastic throughout all stages of what is normally a very stressful time. They have been efficient, professional and friendly. Everyone at Stourscombe Vale is always on hand to help and we have been treated so well by members of the sales team, we’ll be sad to see them leave once the development is completed,” continues John.
John’s wife Barbara is just happy they have finally settled somewhere. She says: “I have loved travelling the world with John and have seen some wonderful sights. However, when you get to our age, you are ready for some stability. We have definitely made the right choice settling in Launceston and our new house gives enough space for our children to visit as they, unsurprisingly, have caught the travelling bug and live all over the world. But at least we have a permanent base for them to visit now.”
Whatever your reasons for moving, Stourscombe Vale offers a wide range of homes – from two-bedroom terraced houses to four-bedroom detached homes. Current prices range from £137,995 to £299,995. The development is situated on the outskirts of the market town of Launceston. Historically known as the 'Ancient Capital of Cornwall', the town dates back to Celtic times and is an area of considerable charm and beauty. It is conveniently situated close to the A30 enabling residents’ to have fast access to Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol and Truro. The reliable bus services link the town to various surrounding towns and villages. And, in case the Walters get their ‘wanderlust’ again, there are three local provincial airports at Plymouth, Exeter and Newquay, while the nearest mainline railway station is about 12 miles away at Tavistock.
